DOVENBY
HALL ESTATE

Dovenby Hall, located in Dovenby, near Cockermouth in Cumbria, has been the home of M-Sport since 2000. Today, it serves as the company's global headquarters, where more than 250 employees design, engineer, manufacture, and support championship winning motorsport programmes and advanced automotive projects.

Set within a 115 acre estate, Dovenby Hall is home to a state of the art workshop where the majority of components are designed and manufactured in house. Combining world class facilities with decades of engineering expertise, M-Sport has the capability to take a vehicle from initial design concept through engineering, prototype development, manufacturing, assembly, and testing to a fully competition ready race or rally car. It is this end to end capability that enables the team to successfully deliver programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, World Rally Raid Championship, GT3 racing programmes, and customer motorsport.

DOVENBY HALL HISTORY

Dovenby Hall has a long and varied history. The oldest part of the building, the Peel Tower, dates from the twelfth century, and over the centuries the estate passed through the hands of families including the Lamplughs and the Dykes. From 1930 it served a very different purpose, having been converted into a hospital that eventually accommodated around 400 patients before closing in early 1997.

The estate's modern chapter began when Malcolm Wilson OBE purchased the Hall and its grounds in January 1998, following an extensive search that took in 38 properties across the country. Keeping the base in northern England mattered, and Dovenby offered both the space and the setting the growing team needed. After considerable restoration, carried out with care to preserve the building's original features, the team moved in during May 2000.

The former walled garden was transformed into a 5,575 square-metre workshop, linked to the Hall by a glazed walkway, while the Hall itself now houses offices alongside its restored twelfth-century stonework. Set within 115 acres of Cumbrian parkland, the site brings historic surroundings and modern engineering facilities together as the headquarters from which M-Sport runs its worldwide competition programmes.
