DRIVEN TO SUCCEED: ED'S JOURNEY FROM GRADUATE TO JUNIOR ENGINE ENGINEER

Behind every engineer at M-Sport is a story of ambition, determination, and a love for motorsport that fuels their career. For Ed, now a Junior Engine Engineer, joining M-Sport was the moment his passion for engineering met real-world performance. “My name’s Ed, and I studied Motorsport Engineering at Coventry University,” he begins. “I joined M-Sport in September 2024, starting in Sub-Assembly.”

For Ed, applying to the M-Sport Graduate Programme was about more than just starting his career — it was about growth and discovery. “The progression opportunities and the possibility to trial different disciplines of Engineering and Design to decide what’s best for me,” he explains. “The Graduate Programme offered a chance to develop my skills across multiple areas, in a real-world motorsport environment, and be part of a respected team at the forefront of rallying.”

Building Pace: Learning, Adapting, and Applying

The graduate programme gave Ed the opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice. “It was great to use the skills and knowledge I gained from my degree and apply them directly to motorsport,” he says. “There were so many opportunities to develop further and learn from experienced engineers.” A standout moment for Ed was supporting the team at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. “Seeing the cars I’d worked on out on display, performing on track, was incredible,” he recalls. “It really hit home that I was part of something big here.” The programme’s flexibility has also helped Ed grow both technically and personally. “It’s adaptable to your skill and knowledge level, and there are always opportunities to learn, ask questions, and take on new challenges,” he says.

In the Fast Lane: Life at M-Sport

Working at M-Sport means no two days are ever the same. “There’s always something interesting to get stuck into,” Ed says. When asked to describe the team culture in three words, he doesn’t hesitate: “Innovative, Engaging, and Rewarding.” “The most exciting part,” he adds, “is knowing that your work ends up at the forefront of motorsport. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Shifting Up a Gear: Growing into a Junior Engine Engineer

Now progressing into his role as Junior Engine Engineer, Ed is focused on deepening his technical knowledge and continuing to develop. “I’m driven to keep building my expertise and to ultimately represent M-Sport as part of the engineering team at events,” he says. The transition from graduate to full-time engineer has been both challenging

and fulfilling. “The programme gave me a foundation, and now I’m taking those skills and applying them to more complex work,” he reflects.

Navigating the Next Stage: Advice for Future Graduates

For anyone thinking of applying, Ed’s advice is clear: “It’s an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and develop in the fast-paced world of motorsport. If you’re passionate about engineering and ready to get hands-on, M-Sport is the perfect place to start.”
