ENGINE DESIGN ENGINEER

ABOUT THE ROLE

​

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally-Raid and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit a talented and driven Engine Design Engineer to join our growing Engine Design team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

​

This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of motorsport innovation, developing high-performance engine components and systems that compete on the world stage. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be involved throughout the complete design lifecycle, from initial concept through to race-winning deployment.

 

The role responsibilities include:

​

  • Engine Component Design: Design, develop and optimise high-performance engine components and systems using 3D CAD software, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability and manufacturing requirements.

  • Engineering Drawings & Specifications: Produce detailed engineering drawings, GD&T specifications and tolerance analyses to support manufacturing and assembly processes.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engine Build, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure design solutions align with engine performance objectives and programme requirements.

  • Project Management: Manage projects through the full product lifecycle, from concept generation and prototyping through validation, testing and race implementation.

  • Engineering Analysis: Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions, validate concepts and optimise component performance. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to ongoing engine development programmes, identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, manufacturability and efficiency.

  • Technical Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve technical challenges through a practical and analytical approach, delivering robust engineering solutions in a time-sensitive environment.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

​

We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

​

Essential Criteria & Skills:

​

  • Engineering Qualification: Educated to BEng or MEng degree level in Motorsport Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • CAD Experience: Strong knowledge and experience of 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA V5.

  • Engine & Powertrain Interest: A genuine passion for engines, powertrain systems and high-performance vehicle engineering.

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of modern manufacturing techniques, engineering materials and design-for-manufacture principles.

  • Problem Solving: A practical and analytical approach to engineering challenges, with the ability to develop innovative and effective solutions.

  • Communication & Teamwork: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across multiple departments.

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to deliver a consistently high standard of quality and accuracy whilst working to strict deadlines.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 2–3 years' previous experience in a design engineering role within motorsport, automotive, powertrain or a similar high-performance engineering environment.
