DYNO TEST TECHNICIAN

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers championship-winning programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally-Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities.

We are looking to recruit a skilled and motivated Dyno Test Technician to join our Engine Department at our Dovenby Hall headquarters. This role plays a key part in the preparation, operation and maintenance of our state-of-the-art engine dynamometer facilities. Working closely with Engine Engineers and Engine Technicians, you will support the development, validation and optimisation of high-performance powertrains, ensuring they deliver the performance, reliability and durability required to compete at the highest level of motorsport.

The role responsibilities include:

  • Engine Installation & Preparation: Prepare and install engines and powertrain assemblies onto dynamometer test facilities.

  • Engine Testing Operations: Operate engine dyno facilities and conduct testing programmes for new, rebuilt and development engines.

  • Test Cell Configuration: Modify and configure test cell setups to accommodate different engine specifications and testing requirements.

  • Instrumentation & Calibration: Set up, calibrate and maintain gauges, sensors and measuring equipment to ensure accurate test results.

  • Performance & Durability Testing: Carry out dedicated testing routines to validate engine performance, reliability and durability.

  • Data & Documentation: Ensure all testing records, procedures and documentation are accurately maintained and kept up to date.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment and ensure all health and safety procedures are followed during testing activities.

  • Continuous Improvement: Support the ongoing development of testing procedures, facilities and processes to maximise efficiency and performance.

We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. 

Essential Criteria & Skills: 

  • Technical Understanding & Education: Educated to a high technical level with a thorough understanding of engine mechanics and associated systems.

  • Engineering Interpretation: Ability to follow technical instructions and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and test plans.

  • Data Acquisition Knowledge: Practical understanding of data logging systems, sensors, instrumentation and ECU interfaces.

  • Attention to Detail: Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • Time Management: Ability to multitask, prioritise workloads and work effectively in a time-sensitive environment.

  • Problem Solving: Practical and methodical approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.

  • Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • IT Skills: Computer literate with strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence using technical software systems.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous hands-on experience working within a dyno, engine testing, powertrain development or validation environment.

  • Familiarity with engine management systems, data acquisition software and dynamometer operation is desirable.
