Stobart Motorsport drivers to cycle for local charities

Stobart rally crew Matthew Wilson and Scott Martin will be swapping Nomex for Latex this weekend as they aim to cycle the full length of Britain on a nine day trek from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

With a six week break in the FIA World Rally Championship the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford rally team pair decided to take on the ride to challenge and gauge their extensive fitness regime. Being such a long and adventurous ride the boys thought it a good opportunity to help support some local worthwhile causes close to them along the way.

While on their journey they will be looking for as much support as possible to help three very needy causes in The Richard Burns Foundation, Cumbria Community Foundation and the Great North Air Ambulance service – an organisation with a very special link to the Stobart Motorsport family.

Back in 2005 Matthew and Scott were involved in an horrific accident on the Rally of Wales which was almost career-ending for the pair. Sustaining extreme injuries to his legs, Scott was hastily rushed to hospital thanks to the help of a Great North Air Ambulance helicopter. Doctors say his speedy transport to a proper medical facility was a major factor in his full and healthy recovery.

Just this year Stobart Motorsport was again extremely grateful for the immediate actions taken by the Great North Air Ambulance when rally legend Jimmy McRae and his co-driver Andy Richardson had a high-speed accident on stage 6 of the Pirelli Rally. Fortunately just minutes after their crash the pair were airlifted to hospital for treatment.

The Richard Burns Foundation is a charitable organisation close to the hearts of everyone in rallying and one which the guys have been involved with on many occasions in the past. Just last year Matthew and his Stobart Ford Focus car were able to take some less fortunate children for the ride of their lives at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Cumbria Community Foundation is based at Dovenby Hall, home to M-Sport and all three Ford WRC manufacturer teams, and is an organisation that manages charitable funding across the County of Cumbria. This was extremely prevalent back in 2005 when they successfully administered the floods disaster fund in Carlisle – the home of Eddie Stobart Ltd.

Matthew and Scott’s journey will see them travel through some of Britain’s most breathtaking scenery as they cycle through England, Wales and Scotland. To help these very worthwhile causes and make a donation please visit
