Young gun to contest NZ Fiesta SportingTrophy

The New Zealand Ford Fiesta SportingTrophy series is excited to announce that Northland teenager Ben Jagger will contest the 2008 Fiesta SportingTrophy series.

Jagger and co-driver Ben Hawkins will contest the series in the car campaigned by Kayne Barrie in the innaugural Fiesta SportingTrophy series to second place, missing out on the series win by a mere 3.4 seconds in the final round.

This will be the 18 year-old’s first attempt at the national championship after competing in selected club events last year in a Suzuki Swift, gaining success with a second in class at the Rally of the far North and a class win on the treacherous Hawkes Bay Rally, as well as numerous class records on club events.

Jagger has been competing since he was 15 years old, starting out in a classic Mk1 Ford Escort. This car was replaced after an accident by a Toyota Starlet, which was crashed before Ben had a chance to drive it. The Swift replaced the Starlet for the start of last season.

Asked of his goals for the season, Jagger replied “I would like to compete in all the rounds, run at the front and going to England would be the ultimate.”

The New Zealand Ford Fiesta SportingTrophy will run in conjunction with the New Zealand Rally Championship, starting with the Wairarapa rally from 12-13 April, visiting Otago, Whangarei, Hawkes Bay and Hamilton before the final round in Nelson on 20-21 September.
