M-Sport take top honours at Cumbria’s Sports Awards night
After successfully winning the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers’ for the second year running with the BP-Ford World Rally Team, M-Sport has been rewarded for its fine work at last weekend’s Cumbrian Sports Awards by receiving the prestigious Cumbrian Team-of-the-Year award.
The criterion for the award, set by the Cumbria County Council, was for the best team achievement throughout the past year. Previous winners of this highly regarded award include; Penrith Rugby Union Club, Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs, Whitehaven Rugby League Club and more recently the Carlisle United Football Club.
Up against some stiff competition M-Sport prevailed unanimously as a result of this year’s successful world championship campaign. The award also recognised the team’s effort in running the Cumbrian-backed Stobart VK M-Sport Ford rally team who currently lie third in the manufacturers’ championship.
Along with its large customer base which supplies services to Ford Focus RS WRC owners across the globe from Britain to Barbados, M-Sport is also responsible for a third WRC outfit. The Munchi’s World Rally Team is the only all-Argentine WRC squad who currently lay sixth in the manufacturers’ championship.
