Daneil Röjsel secured class victory at last weekend’s Rally Sweden, and also finished as the highest placed two-wheel drive competitor behind the wheel of his one-litre Ecoboost Ford Fiesta R2.
Winning the opening Super-Special Stage in the town of Karlstad on Thursday evening, the event could not have got off to a better start for the young Swede.
The stages on Friday morning made a loop over to Norway and Röjsel continued to take stage wins. Increasing his advantage at the head of the field throughout the day, he dropped just one fastest stage time when the loss of studs slowed him through SS7. With fresh tyres for the final stage of the day, the young Swede was back on top and had established a comfortable three minute lead.
Saturday’s stages included the legendary Vargåsen stage and the famous jump at Colin’s Crest. Increasing his lead before midday service, Röjsel also made it into the top-ten list of longest jumps at Colin’s Crest – launching his Fiesta R2 an impressive 36 metres!
The remaining three stages of the rally were contested on Sunday morning and Röjsel adopted a cautious approach to secure the victory - doing so with an impressive nine minutes and 26 seconds in hand.
“We are very pleased with our performance on this rally and especially with some new competition from both Norway and Finland,” said the youngster after the event.
“I would like to give a very special thank you to my team who did a perfect job. I’m so pleased with how things went, and so satisfied with the car and the tyres which were a perfect combination.
“To get all these kilometers under our belt and improve our pace as preparation for the next round in the Swedish Rally Championship in two weeks’ time is also really great.”
The Ford Sweden support driver will next take his Fiesta R2 to Östersund in Northern Sweden (24 -25 of February).
