M-Sport Racing secures pole and equals best result

M-Sport Racing brought their British GT campaign to a close in style at Snetterton last weekend. Equalling their best ever result, the team finished second and tenth at rounds five and six of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship as well as securing pole position with Rembert Berg.

With Qualifying split into two sessions, Berg was the star of the show as he posted the fastest time behind the wheel of his Audi R8 LMS. Mastering the rain-soaked track, the Dutchman put in a sensational performance to put M-Sport Racing in the best possible position going into the first race of the weekend. Warren Hughes posted the 14th fastest time – in somewhat dryer conditions – during his Qualifying session.

Thanks to some more impressive work by the M-Sport team in the pit stops, the pairing secured a thoroughly deserved third-placed finish on the track. But the best was yet to come as a 30 second penalty for the provisional winners promoted M-Sport Racing to second place in the overall standings – equalling their best ever track result.

Incurring a penalty for the second race – something all podium finishers have to endure under the regulations – Berg and Hughes put in another sterling performance to climb from 14th to 10th overall.

The action at Snetterton marked the end of M-Sport Racing’s solo 2013 British GT programme. But with a wealth of experience and knowledge gained, the team are now working towards their up-and-coming collaboration with Bentley.

M-Sport Managing Director, Malcolm Wilson OBE, said:

“Another great result for the team is testament to all the hard work that has gone into this project – both in the public light and behind the scenes. Everyone involved has done a fantastic job and it looks as though the hard work will pay dividends as we move towards accelerating the collaboration with Bentley.

“Warren [Hughes] and Rem [Berg] have been fantastic for the team – bringing a wealth of knowledge and advice – and their results over the past four races prove their worth. Rem especially did a great job this weekend.”
