M-Sport Racing claims fourth for Audi at Silverstone

M-Sport Racing drivers, Rembert Berg and Warren Hughes, secured fourth place in the fourth round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Silverstone last weekend. Thanks to a strong team effort throughout the three-hour endurance race, the pairing – who pilot an Audi R8 LMS – now lay second in the drivers’ championship.

Despite being unable to harness the single lap speed of the car over the course of the weekend, the team was pleased to qualify 22nd – just 0.27 seconds adrift of the fastest Audi’s pace.

A strong start and even stronger team work enabled the team to use the caution periods to their advantage. Moving through the field, the squad claimed fourth place overall – gaining an impressive 18 places on their qualifying position.

After the series’ first four rounds, Berg and Hughes now lay an impressive second in the drivers’ championship having only been able to collect points from the last two rounds as an issue with the homologation of the 2013 specification car rendered them unable to claim points from their finishes on the opening rounds at Oulton Park.

The next round will see the team revert to the one hour sprint format for rounds five and six, to be held at Snetterton on 16th June 2013.

M-Sport Managing Director, Malcolm Wilson OBE, said:

“It has been a great team performance this weekend.  Rem [Berg] and Warren [Hughes] did a good job in the Audi but the M-Sport Racing support team really pulled out the stops to get the drivers in the best possible position at the chequered flag.  It is true that we didn’t have the fastest car on the race track this weekend, but over an endurance race distance the result is the key.”
